AI is changing which companies get recommended
Language models have become a new search channel. They decide who gets mentioned — and who does not. That fundamentally changes the conditions for B2B visibility.
Google is no longer the only place B2B buyers begin their research. Large language models — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity — have become a primary tool for mapping markets, comparing vendors and shortlisting companies long before the first conversation takes place.
That changes something fundamental. A language model does not return ten blue links. It answers with a recommendation. Often three to five names. Rarely more.
Who gets mentioned — and why
Language models build their answers from what is visible, credible and consistently referenced across the open internet. It is not advertising. It is not SEO-optimised campaign pages. It is substantive content, third-party coverage, documented expertise and a clear positioning that is repeated across sources.
The companies AI mentions are those whose narrative holds together. The ones that describe themselves consistently, are documented independently, and appear in the contexts where decision-makers are looking.
What this means for B2B
If your company does not show up in AI answers when someone asks "who are the best vendors of X in Denmark", you are effectively invisible to a growing part of the market. Not ranked low. Not shown below others. Not mentioned at all.
This is a different kind of invisibility than SEO used to be about. You cannot buy your way in. You cannot advertise your way in. You can only build the narrative and the presence the models draw on.
What can be done
The companies working systematically on this typically do three things:
- They are documented independently — in media, industry reports, cases, references and by partners.
- They have a consistent positioning — what the company says about itself matches what others say about it.
- They publish substantive content — content weighty enough to be cited or pulled into an answer.
These are not marketing tricks. It is systematic work on how the company appears in the digital space when others — including AI — investigate it.
A new dimension of visibility
AI visibility has become a new, measurable dimension of digital market position. It is no longer optional to engage with if you sell to a buyer who uses AI as part of their research.
This is one of the reasons BrandScore analyses AI visibility as a dimension in its own right, alongside classical factors such as search visibility, authority and trust. Because what language models already say about you today increasingly shapes what buyers believe about you.
